Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, July 10th, and the gospel reading is Matthew 10, 7-15, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 10, 7.

And preach as you go, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Today’s reading made me think about our recent move for my dad’s new job.

When I was decorating my new room, I decided not to put up as many of the pictures I had hanging in my old room.

Not because I didn’t like my artwork and pictures that I used to have hanging, but it just felt right to have a little more empty space on my walls.

This time around, the Bible reading made me think about this.

When Jesus said not to take gold, silver, and tunic, and sandals, the reason why I thought about my art is because the pieces decided to hang this time in my new room are the ones I enjoy the most.

The ones that make me happy when I look in them, and not just cluttered up with art because I own it.

Today’s saint of the day is Blessed Pier Giorgio Fassati.

He was born April 6, 1901, and died July 4, 1925.

He is the patron saint of youth, students, and World Youth Day.

Pier Giorgio Fassati was the only son of an Italian family.

He could have easily lived as a spoiled child, but instead he lived his life living out the Beatitudes.

Pier Giorgio loved to show God’s love and happiness in life with jokes to his friends and acts of charity, and to love others he would lead mountain climbing trips to see the beauty of God’s creation.

He also played practical jokes on people that he loved.

There’s a story that he wants to give a box of chocolates.

He had tied them all together so that when he pulled out one of the chocolates, all the chocolates in the box came out.

Pier Giorgio had a deep love for the poor.

He gave his shoes away to the needy and often visited the poor parts of the town.

He would say that because he got to visit Jesus regularly in the Eucharist, he wanted to return the favor to Jesus by visiting the poor.

During one of his visits, he contracted polio, which later led to his death.

He was only 24 years old when he died, and the streets were clouded with the people that he loved and served.

Jesus was telling his disciples not to take too many earthly things to clutter up their minds and make their bags heavy so that they could focus on teaching the gospel to people that needed to hear about them and his miracles.

It is more important to care about our hearts and filling them with God’s love than filling our rooms and spaces with possessions that clutter our thoughts so we can focus on only him.

Pier Giorgio Fusatti had a lot of energy, and he used the energy to be generous and to serve others.

He loved doing Eucharistic adoration.

His life can be an example for us in being disciples of Christ and serving the poor.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to keep our minds and hearts focused on you so that we can also have a clear mind full of love to tell others of you.

Help us all want to live as true disciples of Christ in today’s world, even though we might be distracted.

Blessed Pier Giorgio, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
