Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Monday, July 7th, and the gospel reading is Matthew 9, 18-26, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 9, 22.
Jesus turned, and seeing her, he said, Take heart, daughter, your faith has made you well.
And instantly, the woman was made well.
What if you were hurt and needed a first aid kit?
If you had a cut, say, on your knee, and I give you a smiley face sticker to put on it, would that help?
If you had a little bug bite, and I pulled out some peanut butter from my kit, would that help?
What if you had a stomachache, and I gave you a piece of candy?
What kind of things do you need in your first aid kit to help when you are physically in need?
Because of all my suggestions, we’re pretty silly.
Today’s saint of the day is Blessed Peter Turat.
He was born from an island village in what is now Papua New Guinea.
Blessed Peter was a catechist and was very compassionate when he taught others about the Catholic faith.
Peter’s wife, Paula, was also a faithful Catholic, and Peter and her prayed together regularly.
Peter would often take his two children with him while he taught the catechesis class.
In 1942, during World War II, the Japanese military invaded his island and imprisoned all the priests, so Peter became the primary spiritual teacher for his village in secret because worship was forbidden.
He often visited priests in prison and brought the Blessed Sacrament back to the village with him.
When the village church was destroyed, Peter built a new one and hid it among in the trees.
Blessed Peter Turat was martyred.
Jesus didn’t need a first aid kit.
All he did to help people when they were sick or in need was a simple touch.
He did some pretty amazing miracles that you wouldn’t expect.
All the lady had to do was touch the hammer on his garment and believe.
All the little girl did is that he told her parents that she was sleeping.
Jesus always takes care of us in the ways we know that’s best.
When Peter died, he said he was not afraid to die because he was protecting the sanctity of marriage and family life.
Marriage is often not respected in today’s world, but Peter clearly saw the importance.
My mom and dad are a great example of how important being married is.
They love each other very much.
Hopefully your parents do too.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you that you always know what’s best and what we need to help us and to trust that you always know what’s right.
And help us to be aware of the beauty that marriage is and for all married couples to play for each other and to be strong in their faith together.
Blessed Peter Turat, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
