Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, July 1st, and the gospel reading is Matthew 8, 23-27, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 8, 27.

And the men marveled, saying, What sort of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey him?

Here are a couple of questions for you to think about.

How did the disciples feel when the storm came while they were in the boat?

Afraid! Should they have been afraid?

No! Why not?

Jesus was with them, and they should have known that he could help them.

Should we ever be afraid?

No! We should never be afraid because we know that Jesus is with us and can help us.

Today’s saint of the day is Saint Junipero.

He was born November 24, 1732, and died August 28, 1784.

He is a patron saint of Latinos in America and missionaries.

Saint Junipero was a Spanish missionary whose life was very exciting.

He entered the Franciscan monastery at the age of 17.

After his ordination, he volunteered to be a missionary in New Spain.

He then walked 250 miles to Mexico City, even though he was offered a horse to ride throughout the entire ministry.

He walked about 6,000 miles, even though he had asthma and an injured foot because health knew that serving the people of God was more important.

He learned different languages and translated catechisms to help the work of evangelization in today’s modern day.

Mexico and California.

Saint Junipero founded nine missions after many years of hard work for the Lord.

Junipero died at Mission San Carlos and was buried in the sanctuary of the church that he had built.

If Jesus can make the storm stop and help his disciples, do you think he can help you with your problems?

Of course he can! Jesus is powerful enough to help us with any problem.

Saint Junipero faced challenges without fear.

He traveled across the world because he desired to make Jesus known and loved by all.

He wanted to be a good father to those who were called to serve.

How can you serve Jesus even if it makes you uncomfortable?

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to have faith and pray to you whenever we need help.

And help us to do anything in the love, like Saint Junipero and others can know about you.

Saint Junipero, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
