Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Wednesday, June 25th, and the gospel reading is Matthew 7, 15-20, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 7, 16.

You will know them by their fruits.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Little Red Riding Hood.

She was going to see her grandmother who lived in the woods because she was sick.

When she was walking to her grandmother’s house, she found a wolf.

The wolf asked where she was going and she said she was going to visit her grandmother.

The wolf beat Little Red Riding Hood to the house and pretended to be the grandmother, tucked in bed.

When Little Red Riding Hood got to the house, she realized that the grandmother did not look familiar and said, Grandmother, what big arms you have! All the better to hug you with, my dear.

Grandmother, what big ears you have! All the better to hear you with, my child.

Grandmother, what big eyes you have! All the better to see you with, my child.

Grandmother, what big teeth you’ve got! All the better to eat you up with! A hunter was passing near the hut.

He heard the wolf and recognized him right away.

He ran over to the window, he took a good aim, and that was the end of the wolf.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint William of Vercelli.

He was born 1085 and died June 25, 1142.

He is a patron saint of adopted children and protection against fevers.

Saint William gets his name from the Italian city.

He was born in Vercelli.

His parents died when he was only 14 years old.

And with a special intention of mourning their loss, William set out on a pilgrimage to the Camino.

It was a journey that would profoundly change the course of his life.

By the time he returned, William was a different man.

William sought a quieter life in natural beauty, choosing the remote mountains of southern Italy to be his new home as a hermit.

Saint William of Vercelli found a new religious order and became the spiritual counselor to kings and popes.

Jesus said that there will be people who look like they’re telling the truth that aren’t.

We need to keep our eyes and, when we’re unsure, ask questions to find out if that someone is saying is true or not.

A good thought to always have is, would Jesus do this or would Jesus ask me to do this?

Because we know that Jesus came as an example, a great example, for us to follow.

Saint William was known for his constant prayer and fasting.

He used it as a way to clear away the clutter of his life and make space for God.

Sometimes it’s easy for things to get in the way to spend time with God.

Pray that Saint William Vercelli and God can help you stay focused to pray and read scriptures first before doing things.

It makes your day so much better.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to see your presence and purpose in all things for the grace to respond to him with trust and love.

And we ask for Saint William’s intercession to help us emit his virtues of faith, hope, and love.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
