342. Monday, June 23, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, June 23rd, and the Gospel reading is Matthew 7, 1-5, and the scripture to reflect on is Matthew 7, 1.

Judge not that you be not judged.

Can you remember the last time that you got mad at someone?

Try to remember what they did to you that made you mad.

Did you do something bad or mean to them first?

More than likely, you probably wanted to do something bad or mean to them after they were rude to you because you were all sinful people.

We should remember to think about what bad things you’re doing or want to do before you get mad at someone for doing their bad things.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Joseph Cafasso.

He was born January 1811 and died June 23rd, 1860.

He’s the patron saint of prisoners and prison chaplains.

When Joseph was young, he loved to attend Mass and he was known for humility and long hours spent in prayer.

After his ordination, he was assigned to a seminary in Turin.

He urged people to devote prayer and adoration to the Blessed Sacrament and encouraged daily communion.

In addition to his teaching duties, Joseph was an excellent preacher, confessor, and retreat master.

Noted for his work with condemned prisoners, he helped many of them die at peace with God.

Saint Joseph was also a close friend to Saint John Bosco.

They shared ideas of serving the poor, especially young boys in need.

Joseph guided Bosco in his priestly formation and supported his early efforts in founding the Salesians.

Jesus said that if we want to tell someone that we are doing something wrong, we have to think about what we might be doing wrong first.

For example, if you get into an argument with someone that you want to blame them for all the things that they did wrong, first think about the wrong things you did to them.

We should always think about the wrong things we do before we blame other people for the wrong things that they do.

You have to take care of your wrong first.

Saint Joseph Cafasso is an example of how he can trust in God and it leads to holiness.

Saint Joseph Cafasso showed us how to love God by loving people he loves.

Long prayer before the Blessed Sacrament helps us live out the gospel.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear Jesus, help us not to judge other people or point out what they’re doing wrong until we’ve looked at what we’re doing wrong.

And show us how to love others as we try to live a life of holiness.

Saint Joseph Cafasso, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
