Hello everyone.
Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, June 6th, and the gospel reading is John 21, 15-19, and the scripture to reflect on is John 21, 17.
He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love me?
Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, do you love me?
And he said to him, Lord, you know everything.
You know that I love you.
Jesus said to him, feed my sheep.
Can you speak another language?
My dad can speak French, and I’m learning it too, and my brother is learning Spanish.
Do you want to know how to say I love you in different languages?
French is je t’aime.
Spanish is te amo.
It’s pretty easy to say I love you, but sometimes our actions don’t necessarily show it.
Why did Jesus ask Peter the same question three times?
I think he wanted Peter to understand, and he wanted you and me to understand, that it isn’t just enough to say I love you.
We must show our love for Jesus by showing our love for one another and caring for one another.
Today’s saint of the day is Saint Norbert.
He was born in the year 1080 and died June 6, 1134.
He is the patron saint of pregnant women and unborn children.
Saint Norbert came from a noble family and had received an excellent education.
He lived in luxury because his family was wealthy.
He almost died from a thunderstorm, and after that he changed how he lived.
He took on a life of poverty and living according to the teachings of the gospel.
In 1120, he found the order of the Norbertines.
We can take care of Jesus' sheep by caring for others and by showing love by being kind and thoughtful.
Saint Norbert was known for helping others strengthen their faith by devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and had miracles associated with him for childless couples.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to take time to show love to others as a way of taking care of your sheep.
We love you.
Thank you for loving us.
And help us to devote time to the Blessed Sacrament, even if we start small by going when we can.
Saint Norbert, pray for us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back next week, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
