330. Thursday, June 5, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the Daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, June 5th, and the Gospel reading is John 17, 20-26, and the scripture to reflect on is John 17, 24.

Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given to me, may be with me, where I am, to behold my glory which you have given me in your love for me, before the foundation of the world.

My mom and dad had a totally different name picked out for me before I was born.

But when I was still in my mom’s belly, she had a dream of me with the name Elise.

My name is pretty special because of that story, but what makes it extra special is that God gave my mom that name, and that the name Elise means God’s promise.

I think it’s pretty cool that God gave me to my parents, and that God also gave me such good parents to take care of me and my brother.

Kind of like Jesus said, his disciples were a gift to him.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Boniface.

He was born in 674 and died June 5th, 754.

He’s the patron saint of Germany and brewers.

Saint Boniface is known as the Apostle of Germany.

He became a monk in 716.

Pope Gregory II renamed him Boniface to send him to Germany.

Boniface preached the gospel to the pagan German tribes.

It is said once that after not being struck by lightning, many became baptized after witnessing this event.

When Pope Gregory heard of this news, he considered him bishop.

Saint Boniface established many dioceses and monasteries and died by anger.

Luters slashed him.

Even though I have things about me that aren’t perfect, or even on bad days and I’m snobby or make mistakes, Jesus and my parents see me as a gift.

Do you have someone in your life that you are thankful for?

That God has placed in your life?

You should take time to thank God specifically for them, and even let that person know that they’re pretty special to you.

Even when it was hard or dangerous, Saint Boniface continued to share the good news of Christianity.

Today it is up to us to continue his work of evangelizing.

It is said he planted the seeds of the gospel.

That is what me and my sister are trying to do with this podcast, Scattering Flowers.

You can find ways to plant and sow God’s seeds too.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for all the special people you have given us that bless us and take care of us and love our imperfections and all.

Can you please send them a special blessing today?

And help us to be the light of Christ to those who may not know them, so that they will grow close to you or learn more about you.

Saint Boniface, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow.

Scatter more flowers.

See ya!
