Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, May 27th, and the Gospel reading is John 16, 5-11, and the scripture to reflect on is John 16, 7.

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth.

It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.

Have you ever watched the Disney movie Pinocchio?

You might know the story.

Geppetto makes a wooden peppet boy because all he hoped for was a real son, and then he wishes on a star, and a fairy comes to visit and tells Pinocchio that if he acts good, brave, and kind, she’ll turn him into a real boy.

It’s a long story.

However, my point in telling you this is a cricket is Pinocchio’s good conscience and tells him to make good choices.

Jesus tells the disciples that when the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, comes, he will speak to our hearts and tell us to do what is right and not do wrong.

Today’s saint of the day is Augustine of Canterbury.

His birth is unknown, and he died in the year 604.

He’s a patron saint of England.

Today’s saint of the day is Saint Augustine of Canterbury.

His birth is unknown, and he died in the year 604.

He’s a patron saint of England.

Little is known of Saint Augustine of Canterbury, except for he became a great monk and was a friend of Pope Gregory the Great.

Gregory appointed him to lead 30 missionaries to evangelize England.

He became the first Archbishop of Canterbury in the year 597.

He is considered to be the founder of the English Church.

He built two large monasteries.

The first was called Saint Augustine’s Abbey.

The other is Canterbury Cathedral.

Just like Saint Augustine of Canterbury, we can spread the good news.

How can you or I be brave to share my faith?

My mom and I were just talking about this.

She said we have words and Bible verses to share with others, but sometimes it’s as easy as showing Jesus' love by being kind or going out of my way to help someone.

I’ve tried to show God’s love by trying to be kind to everyone.

I think it’s pretty cool, and we’re pretty lucky that Jesus left us a helper, like our own little cricket, so that when we need a little extra help or our heart needs to figure out what’s right or wrong, we can rely on the Holy Spirit.

We need to be more like Saint Augustine of Canterbury and go out of our way to be kind and loving to others.

Even when we’re a little shy, like he was, it still will help others to think, hey, there’s something different about you, and maybe that will give us a chance to talk to them about Jesus.

Let’s pray the Holy Spirit prayer.

Come Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with your faithful and kindle in the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.

Saint Augustine of Canterbury, pray for us.

Amen.

May the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
