Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.
Let’s get started! Today is Monday, May 26th, and the gospel reading is John 15, 26-16, and verse 4.
And the scripture to reflect on is John 15, 26.
But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me.
Do you play any sports?
If you do, you probably have a coach, right?
A coach usually teaches you how to get better at your sport and helps you improve your skills by doing drills and having weekly practice.
They help guide you in the sport because they usually know how to play and have experience in that sport.
The Holy Spirit is like a coach for our hearts.
He has sent as a coach to guide me by Jesus.
Today’s reflection scripture says that Jesus says that he will send the Holy Spirit from the Father.
The Son is begotten of the Father, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, as he is sent by the Son.
Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would give them into truth to bring them to peace.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Philip Neri.
Saint Philip Neri was born July 22, 1515 and died May 1595.
He is the patron saint of humor, joy, and laughter, and Rome.
He is also known as the second apostle of Rome.
He was well liked because of his well gentler kind and had a sweet personality.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and used this gift when helping others.
His two favorite books were the Bible and a joke book.
He used his gifts of charm and humor to teach others about Jesus.
He shared his joy and kindness with the poor and helped them find food and homes.
Do you remember when you got confirmed as a Catholic or your priests received the Holy Spirit?
Living in the Spirit doesn’t change who we are, rather it makes us become more of who we are.
Be thankful to Jesus for leaving us the Holy Spirit before returning to heaven.
Philip used humor to solve many problems and help other people.
We can follow his example and use joy and humor to help others.
Here’s a fun knock-knock joke today in honor of Saint Philip Neri.
Knock-knock.
Who’s there?
Yodel-ay.
Yodel-ay who?
I didn’t know that you could yodel.
Let’s pray.
Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Come Holy Spirit.
Fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle them in the fire of love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the faith of the earth.
Amen.
Saint Philip Neri, pray for us.
Amen.
Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
