Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started!

Today is Friday, May 23rd, and the gospel reading is John 15, 12 through 17, and the scripture to reflect on is John 15, 12.

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

Did you know that at just nine months old, most babies understand friendship?

Even when we are new to the world and not even walking yet, we know what it means to be a friend.

Even before our first birthday, we look forward to seeing the people that mean the most to us.

We seek to see their face and feel loved by them.

It’s like God knew from the beginning.

This makes me so thankful for all my friends and people that I love.

Today is Saint of the Day, Saint Beedie the Venerable.

He was born in the year 672 and died May 25th, 735.

He’s the patron saint of schoolers and historians.

Saint Beedie the Venerable was called the father of English history.

Saint Beedie was ordained deacon at the age of 19 and priest at 30.

He wrote the calendar we still use, which dates events from the birth of Christ, A.D.

He was also first to write books in English.

Jesus is the perfect friend.

He loves us all the time.

We never have to worry about not being loved by him.

Do you think that you are a good friend back to Jesus?

Do you take time to pray and tell him how much you love him?

Praying isn’t easy as just talking to him like we do with our friends here on earth.

We have to make time for him always and first in our day.

And then there will be time for other things like video games, sports, and free time.

Jesus reminds us to be obedient to his commands and challenges us to love one another like he loves and forgives us.

Saint Beedie represents an example of faithfulness and dependability.

He has a passion of love and learning and found fulfillment of God’s will.

He was a very well-educated man and we can thank him for having an influence on English literature.

Phew, makes me want to curl up and read a good book.

Let’s pray.

Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for the gift of friendship and for creating us as people that enjoy having relationships because of your son, Jesus.

And thank you for good books, literature, and studies that make us know more about you.

Saint Beedie, pray for us.

Amen.

Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
