317. Monday, May 19, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, May 19th, and the Gospel reading is John 14, 21-26, and the scripture to reflect on is John 14, 26.

The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.

I have a couple questions for you.

Do you love Jesus?

How does Jesus know you love him?

What can you do to show Jesus that you love him?

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus gives his disciples the answer to that question.

He said, Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me.

Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Dustin.

Saint Dustin was born 910 and died May 19, 988.

He is a patron saint of sailors, jewelers, and goldsmiths and locksmiths.

Saint Dustin was the Archbishop of Canterbury.

He was a bishop, a teacher, a harpist, a blacksmith, and a bellmaker.

He is well known for musical abilities, enchanted hymns, and made church bells and organs.

Saint Dustin encouraged praying the Psalms in everyday life.

He was an advisor to kings and nobles who loved to teach young people theology and chant in his cathedral school.

We can’t just say with words we love Jesus.

Instead, we have to show God our love by doing the right things.

So what are some things you can do to show your love for Jesus?

Saint Dustin knew that his relationship with God was a reason he was able to bring reform while being a bishop.

We should always find ways to see the beauty in serving Jesus too.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, I do love you, even if some days I don’t show it well.

I do love you and will serve you.

Help us to see where our hearts need to change to love more to serve you.

Saint Dustin, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
