Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, May 15th, and the gospel reading is John 13, 16 through 20, and the scripture to reflect on is John 13, 16.

Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is no greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.

Jesus washed his disciples' feet to teach them a lesson that they should help people.

Everyone should be a servant and help the people around them.

He set an example that we should do as he did.

Jesus was the very first person to ever live, but he didn’t make himself puffed up about it, and he wasn’t too good to wash others' feet.

What are some ways that you can help the people in your life?

Today is Saint of the Day, Saint Isidore the Farmer.

Saint Isidore was born around 1080 and died May 15, 1130.

He’s the patron saint of farmers and rural communities.

Saint Isidore had three loves, God, family, and the soil.

There’s a story that once his fellow workers complained that Isidore always came to work late.

When his master went to get him in trouble, he found Isidore praying when an angel did his plowing.

Another time, Saint Isidore’s master was reported to have seen two angels plowing with a saint, one angel on either side.

How cool is that?

Have you ever played a game with your friends like Uno or Monopoly or Sorry?

When we play games like this, you usually want to be the winner because it makes you feel like you’re the best.

Jesus taught us that we don’t have to be the best all the time.

It’s better to be a servant and love others.

We should care more about helping others than making ourselves look good or being okay with not always winning every game.

Saint Isidore’s life is a good example of hard work and working towards holiness in ordinary life.

His example makes us want to do well at our normal everyday work and want to serve others that are less than us.

He be a redeemer that God can be found everywhere.

When we find happiness in our work, I am thankful for being able to be outside in what he created.

Aren’t you?

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to do service to others out of love and not just do it to look good, but because we want to share your love to them.

Help us to be hard workers and to do our work well and always spend time in prayer with you to stay close to your heart.

Saint Isidore, pray for us.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
