Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where we read the Daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.
Let’s get started!Today is Tuesday, May 6th, and the Gospel reading is John 6, 30-35, and the Scripture reflection is John 6, 35.
Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.Have you ever had French toast?
It’s pretty yummy.
It’s bread dipped in this milk-egg-cinnamon custard, and then you fry it to make a delicious coating.
Then you put butter on it and syrup and fresh strawberries.
Mmm, I’m drooling.
Whenever I have this breakfast, I always get super full, because it’s bread, and bread can fill you up pretty quick.
Jesus is the bread that fills us when we are hungry.
The more time you spend with him, the more of him he will want to fill our hearts, just like when we eat bread that fills us up full.
Heyo, I’m back and I’m feeling a lot better.
Today’s Saint of the Day is Saint Dominic Savio.
He was born April 2nd, 1842, and died March 9th, 1857.
We celebrate his feast day today, May 6th.
Saint Dominic Savio is the patron saint of troubled teens.
Have you ever thought that you’re too young to be a saint?
Dominic Savio is the youngest person that the Catholic Church has ever declared to be a saint.
Just by being really, really, really good, Saint Dominic’s life shows us that no one is ever too young to grow close to God.
Do you know a very good way to become close to Jesus?
It’s when we pray.
Anytime you want.
It can be in the morning when you wake up, or when you’re playing, or at bedtime.
When you pray, you can tell Jesus anything you want to.
You can tell him that you’re grateful for, you can tell him what you’re mad about, you can tell you what to confess about your friends and family.
And Jesus always listens.
The more you come to him in prayer, the fuller you’ll be with his love and grace, kind of like a good breakfast of French toast.
Saint Dominic Savio loved God, Jesus, Mary, and the saints very much, and always took time to pray.
He was a friend of Jesus and Mary.
He made a vow to receive communion and the sacrament of penance and reconciliation as often as possible.
He took like this, was full of Jesus.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to take time to pray and to study to spend time with you.
And help us to remember the true things that really matter that make us holy.
Saint Dominic Savio, pray for us.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
