304. Wednesday, April 30, 2025

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily Gospels and the Saint of the Day.

Let’s get started! Today is April 30th and the Gospel reading is John 3, 16-21.

The scripture to reflect on is John 3, 16.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

God’s love is so great that he gave us his Son, a gift we didn’t deserve.

And now, because of him dying for us, we can have eternal life.

If we believe in Jesus, we’ll live forever with God and Jesus in heaven.

Such a cool thing to think about! Today’s Saint is Saint Pius V.

Saint Pius V was born January 17, 1504 and died May 1, 1572.

We celebrate his feast day today, April 30th.

He is the patron saint of church reform and catechisms.

Did you know Saint Pius V was a Pope in 1566?

He published the catechism and missal that we still use today.

He helped make sure everyone prayed in mass the same way and helped the church by reforming the clergy and religious orders and making sure everybody followed the rules of the church.

Reform means to use changes to improve something.

Saint Pius teaches us that holy life is a good way to strive and live.

So let’s remember, Jesus left heaven and came to die on the cross to save us and to forgive us because he loves us.

And Jesus wants us to believe in him and do the right things that we can be proud of.

What better way to continue to learn what to do right in Jesus' eyes than studying the catechism books and following along during mass?

These are ways we can grow in our faith.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to save us.

Jesus, thank you for coming to earth and dying on the cross for our sins.

We love you so much.

And help us to always try and learn more about you and to try to live in holiness.

Saint Pius V, pray for us.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
