302. Monday, April 28, 2025.

Hello everyone! Heyo! Welcome back to Scattering Flowers with Elise and Miles, a podcast where you read the daily gospels and the saint of the day.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, April 28th, and we’ll be reading John 3, 1-8.

Fall on your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read John 3, 1-8.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.

Jesus answered him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old?

Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?

Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Do not marvel that I said to you, you must be born anew.

The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.

So it is with everyone who is born in the Spirit.

Have you ever seen a pregnant lady before?

How do you know she’s pregnant?

Her belly, of course! And why does her belly get so big?

Because there’s a baby growing inside.

And as that baby grows, her belly grows.

Do you think you or I can fit back in your mom’s belly?

No way! We’re way too big! Heyo! Today’s Saint is Saint Peter Chanel.

Now, let’s read his story.

As a boy, Peter was a shepherd on his family’s farm near Beli, France.

His religious devotion impressed the parish priest who helped Peter get a good education.

He entered the seminary, was oriented in 1827, and began missionarying in a parish.

Peter liked to read letters that French missionaries sent home, which stirred his own missionary vocation.

He joined the Maurists, hoping to be sent overseas, but was first assigned to teach at the seminary.

After five years, his dream came true, and he led a band of Maurists to Oceania.

He started working on the island of Futuna, but with little success, he did not know the language and had to adapt to an unfamiliar way of life.

Yet he preserved.

The local chief, strongly opposed to Christianity, became irate with his son asked to be baptized.

The chief sent a band of men to kill Peter by clubbing him to death.

But within a year or so after his martyrdom, the people accepted the faith and the church grew greatly.

Peter was encouraged by a priest who believed in his purpose.

Like St.

Peter’s channel, we can too go to do great things in life because we were born for a reason.

God created us to do great things.

Jesus told Nicodemus that there are two different types of being born.

The first time we are born is when we came out of our mom’s belly.

This is called being born of the flesh.

And the part Nicodemus didn’t understand was being born again, and this is called being born of the spirit.

Are there ways in your life that you can live to help others to live out their best life?

St.

Peter’s channel was born to serve Jesus and so were we.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you that we can have new life and be born again.

And help us to grow to be like the saints.

God calls us to be.

St.

Peter’s channel, pray for us.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

We’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
