291. Friday, April 11, 2025

Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, April 11th, and we’ll be reading John 10, 31-42.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read John 10, 31-42.

The Jews took up stones again to stone him.

Jesus answered them, I have shown you many good works from the Father, for which of these do you stone me?

The Jews answered him, We stone you for no good work but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.

Jesus answered them, It is not written in your law, I said, You are gods.

If he called them gods to whom the word of God came, the scripture cannot be nullified.

Do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, You are blaspheming because I say, I am the Son of God?

If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me.

But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am the Father.

Again they tried to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.

He went away again across the Jordan to a place where John at first baptized, and there he remained.

And many came to him, and they said, John did no sign, but everything that John said about the man was true, and many believed in him there.

I have here a few things I want you to listen to.

Let’s see if you can guess what they are.

Keys, coins, and paper.

Did you recognize any or all of them?

In today’s reading, the Jews wanted to stone Jesus because he spoke like no other.

He spoke in a way that held the attention of all who had ears to understand.

Jesus spoke in a way that had authority.

Jesus wants us to recognize his voice.

Like we recognize the sounds I made in the beginning of today’s podcast, we need to recognize his voice.

Keep reading the scriptures, pray, and ask for understanding and wisdom.

And think about things that are true and lovely and holy, not hold grudges, anger, and bitterness, not cast stones.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to not hold grudges, anger, and bitterness.

Help us to always be loving and kind.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
