Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.
Let’s get started.
Today is Thursday, April 10th, and we’ll be reading John 8, 51 through 59.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read John 8, 51 through 59.
Truly I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.
The Jews said to him, now we know that you have a demon.
Abraham died, as did the prophets, and you say, if anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death?
Are you greater than our father Abraham who died and the prophets died?
Who do you claim to be?
Jesus answered, if I glorify myself, my glory is nothing.
It is my father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is your God.
But you have not known him.
I know him.
If I said I do not know him, I should be a liar like you.
But I do know him, and I keep his word.
Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day.
He saw it and was glad.
The Jews then said to him, you are not yet 50 years old, and have you seen Abraham?
Jesus said to them, truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.
So they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.
You probably know what the seven sacraments are.
Holy orders, marriage, baptism, anointing of the sick, first communion, confirmation, reconciliation.
Did your parish have a reconciliation service for Lent?
Ours did.
Sometimes going to confession makes me nervous, but after I do it, I feel so much better.
It’s hard to imagine not having the act of confession, because I would have to carry around my guilt from my sin.
In today’s reading, Jesus is saying that if we love and follow him, then we will have life in him and through him.
And if we didn’t, we will die.
Jesus promises us life, that we will never see death.
We need to live in him by reading scripture, working our best to stay holy and going to confession, and living the way Jesus did the best we can.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear Jesus, help us to always believe in you, so we will never die.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
