Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.
Let’s get started.
Today is Tuesday, March 25th, and we’ll be reading Luke 1, 26-38.
Follow along in the Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 1, 26-38.
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And he came to her and said, Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
But she was greatly troubled at the saying and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.
And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.
And he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom there will be no end.
And Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I have no husband?
And the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore, the child to be born will be called Holy, the Son of God.
And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth, in her old age, has also conceived a son.
And this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
For with God nothing will be impossible.
And Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord.
Let it be done to me according to your word.
And the angel departed from her.
Today is the Annunciation.
We celebrate when the angel Gabriel visited Mary to announce that she would bear the Son of God, and Mary’s yes to that call, or her fiat.
The scene between Gabriel and Mary has often been done as a painting.
We actually did a picture study of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting.
Some fun facts we learned were, this is the first completed work by da Vinci himself at 21 years old.
In the early 1470s, it was used by monks, meditation, and devotion.
The angel holds a lily in his left hand, a symbol of Mary’s purity.
And Mary is slightly bowing her head to show reverence and submitting to God’s will.
And da Vinci does a lot of detail with the landscape and floral, showing his personal love for nature.
It is a masterpiece.
It was created in Florence, Italy, and it’s still there to this day.
You should Google it and see how beautiful it truly is.
If you take time today to check this painting out, I hope it inspires you and shows you the beauty of this feast day.
Let’s pray the Angulus together.
Today, with my brother’s help.
Since Mary said yes to God, and so should we.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed are the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Behold, the handmaiden of the Lord.
Be it done to me according to thy word.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
And the world was made flesh.
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray.
Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ, thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection.
Through the same Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
