Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.
Let’s get started! Today is Friday, March 14th, and we will be reading Matthew 5, 20 through 26.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 5, 20 through 26.
For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
You have heard that it was said to the men of old, You shall not kill, and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.
But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment.
Whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council.
And whoever says, You fool, shall be liable to hell of fire.
So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there, remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go, first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Make friends quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison.
Truly I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.
Have you ever really thought about it, the part of the Mass when we celebrate the Eucharist?
At the beginning of the Eucharist, we confess our sins to God, and to the other people around us.
I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned.
Do you really think about what you are saying?
And we also give the sign of peace with all those around us.
My dad said it’s important to do this.
Like I had a bad grumpy morning, and was rude to my brother or mom, or even in just a bad mood.
How can we share the body and blood, if we are holding into a sour mood?
Make sure next time you do this, really do it from the heart, not just from an empty peace sign or hug.
When you truly mean it, it just feels right.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to love you with our whole heart.
Thank you for dying on the cross for our sins.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back next week, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
