Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, March 7th, and we’ll be reading Matthew 9, 14-15.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Matthew 9, 14-15.

Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?

And Jesus said to them, Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?

The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

This year in school, I had had a lot of excitements that make me research and prove or explain my answers.

Sometimes I enjoy looking things up and learning that subject more in depth.

Some weeks though, I sigh and huff and puff because I don’t feel like spending time doing that.

My mom sometimes makes me take the time, but sometimes if I’m having a bad week, she will help me.

That lady, she’s got a lot of knowledge.

She likes to teach me and help me understand.

That’s kind of like today’s scripture reading.

The disciples must have not had time to watch and learn, so they needed Jesus to explain fasting more in depth.

This parable taught the disciples that the reason they didn’t fast is because it wouldn’t be right for them to fast in the presence of God.

We fast to remember to focus on God, but it is unnecessary when we are in His presence, like His disciples when Jesus was physically with them.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to remember to keep our focus on You, so we can learn more about You.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
