240. Thursday, February 27, 2025

Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, February 27th, and we’ll be reading Mark 9, 41-50.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Mark 9, 41-50.

For truly I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward.

Whoever causes one of these little ones to believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.

And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.

It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.

And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off.

It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two feet to be thrown into hell.

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.

It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than two eyes to be thrown into hell.

Where there one does not die and the fire is not quenched, for everyone will be salted with fire.

Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you season it?

Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another.

There are many ways we can show someone that you care about them.

When someone is sick, a visit from a friend might make them feel better than a dose of medicine.

When someone is sad or having a bad day, a smile or a friendly hello would brighten their day.

Have you ever seen someone sitting all alone at school?

What if you sat down and talked to them?

It just might make them feel as someone cares about them.

Acts of kindness can say a lot more than a gift.

Today’s reading says that Jesus rewards those who are kind to his fatherers.

No matter how small the act of kindness is, Jesus expects his followers to be kind to everyone, not just other believers.

God sees, remembers, and rewards acts of kindness, even if they are as simple as a smile, hello, or being friendly.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help me to be kind to those who are lonely or sad.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
