Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.
Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, January 14th, and we’ll be reading Mark 1, 21-28.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Mark 1, 21-28.
And they went to Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.
And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, not as the scribes.
And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit.
And he cried out, What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know who you are, the Holy One of God.
But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent and come out of him.
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
And they were amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this, a new teaching?
With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.
And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.
My mom used to be a school teacher before she decided to stay at home with me and my brother.
She told me she used to play this game with her kids to get them to clean up their workstations.
She would make it a competition that whoever did it faster or cleaned up more would have a prize or point for the later reward.
In today’s reading Jesus healed an unclean spirit.
Think about the heavenly reward or prize that man got after.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to rely on Jesus when my life is messy to help me become better.
Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
