Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Friday, December 20th, and we will be reading Luke 1, 26-38.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 1, 26-38.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth.

To a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.

And he came to her and said, Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

But she was greatly troubled at this saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.

And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great and be called the Son of the Most High.

And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.

And Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I have no husband?

And the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.

Therefore the child to be born will be called Holy, the Son of God.

And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is her sixth month with her, who was called barren.

For with God nothing will be impossible.

And Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord.

Let it be done to me according to your word.

And the angel departed from her.

Can you try to think of some characteristics that are pleasing to God?

I thought of a couple in me.

Kindness and helpfulness.

I care when people are sad or need help.

Enthusiastic.

I like to cheer people on and make them feel good.

What characteristics of you do you think makes you a likable or a good person?

In today’s reading God chose Mary to carry Jesus our Savior.

God was pleased when Mary said yes to His will and became obedient to Him.

Virtue, goodness, holiness, righteousness, honor are a few.

When these characteristics are missing the person is not complete.

But a person who is pleasing to God and pleasing to others can be used in a mighty way.

That’s how God used Mary.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for sending us your son Jesus.

We trust you to do work in our lives because we try to live pleasingly for you.

We love you.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
