Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Wednesday, December 18th, and we will be reading Matthew 1, 18-25.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Matthew 1, 18-25.

Now the birth of Jesus took place in this way.

When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be pregnant with the Holy Spirit.

And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to send her away quietly.

But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophets.

Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel, which means God with us.

When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him.

He took his wife, but knew her not until she had borne a son, and he called his name Jesus.

How do you get your news?

Do you watch the nightly news on TV like my grandpa?

Do you get a newspaper like my dad?

Or do you watch it on social media like lots of other people?

Back in Bible times, they didn’t have TVs, newspapers, or phones.

Mary got the best news of all from an angel.

The angel was like today’s newscaster, newspaper writer, or social media poster.

He had the best newscast of all, don’t you think?

Cause that story is still being told today.

We should be excited to share this news all the time too.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you for the amazing announcement and news that the angel brought to Mary of Jesus being born.

If it weren’t for that announcement, we wouldn’t be able to celebrate your birth every year.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
