187. Monday, December 16

Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, December 16th and we’ll be reading Matthew 21, 23-27.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Matthew 21, 23-27.

And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority are you doing these things?

And who gave you this authority?

Jesus answered them, I also will ask you a question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.

The baptism of John, where was it from?

From heaven or from men?

And they argued with one another, If we say from heaven, he will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?

But if we say from men, we are afraid of the multitude, for all hold that John was a prophet.

So they answered, Jesus, we do not know.

And he said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Have you ever played that game mother may I at school or classroom setting?

I got something like this, Mother may I get up and give so and so a hug?

And then the leader says, Yes, you may or no, you may not.

Mother, may I take two steps forward?

Yes, you may.

The person that is the mother that you’re asking permission from is the person in charge of the game for that round.

That is kind of what today’s reading is about.

The chief priests and elders of the temple questioned the authority of Jesus to perform miracles.

Jesus received authority from the Father.

So lucky us.

When we go to Jesus’s name, we can go with his authority.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, thank you that we have authority when we walk with you.

Help us to continue to strive daily to keep walking with you with wisdom.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya.
