Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, December 5th, and we’ll be reading Matthew 7, 21, and 24-27.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 7, 21, and 24-27.
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock, and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand, and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat against the house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
My aunt and uncle go to Italy every couple of years to visit my uncle’s cousins.
The first time they went was right after they got married, so it was my aunt’s first time there, so they did a bunch of the touristy stuff, and they went and saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
They brought back my dad a little tiny statue.
I thought of that statue today when I read about the foolish man and the wise man.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most famous landmarks of the world, not because of how beautiful it is, but because of how it has a tilt.
It wasn’t supposed to lean, but what was happened with it is that the tower was built on sandy soil, so it didn’t have a firm foundation, and the weight of the stone was not stable, so it began to lean.
This is what Jesus was talking about when he talked about the wise and foolish man.
The wise man builds his house upon the rock.
Jesus is the rock.
The foolish man doesn’t listen to the teachings of Jesus, is like the house on the sand, and he will lean this way and that, like the Tower of Pisa.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help me to make my decision, and remember to stand firm on the rock, which is Jesus.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
