Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, December 2nd and we will be reading Matthew 8, 5-11.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Matthew 8, 5-11.

As he entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, begging him, and saying, Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home in terrible distress.

And he said to him, I will come and heal him.

But the centurion answered him, Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word and my servant will be healed, for I am a man under authority with soldiers under me.

And I say to one, go, and he goes, and to another, come, and he comes, and to my slave, do this, and he does it.

When Jesus heard him, he marveled and said to those who followed him, Truly I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.

I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at a table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

A few years ago I took a cooking class and I learned how to make homemade hamburger buns.

It was a lot of fun, and they turned out so yummy and fluffy.

I wanted to make them again for an upcoming holiday and remembered how to do all the steps while I followed my recipe.

And when I went to pull them out of the oven, I literally forgot to use a hot pad.

I burned myself so bad and dropped all the freshly baked buns.

I tell you this story because today’s reading is one we all know pretty well, I think.

Just like how I know very well that to take something out of an oven, I needed to use a hot pad.

But we can do that with God sometimes too.

We hear about the familiar stories and readings and can treat them like they aren’t important.

We need to be like the centurion and admit the power of Jesus.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, we love you and know how good and powerful you are.

Please help us to live with more faith like the centurion.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
