Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily Gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Monday, November 25th, and we will be reading Luke 21, 1-4.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 21, 1-4.

He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and he saw a poor widow put in two copper coins.

And he said, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them, for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had.

Do you know what president is on the penny?

It’s Abraham Lincoln.

He was our 16th president, and he was such a great president that they put his picture on all our pennies.

He was president at a very difficult time in our nation’s history, but he didn’t lead the nation alone.

Abraham Lincoln relied on God to guide him and give him strength as he led the nation.

In Jesus' time, the smallest coin was called a mite.

In today’s reading, the widow makes us realize we should always give something, even if we think it’s a lot or a little.

Giving is always a way to serve God and bless others.

By giving everything she could, the widow in the story did more than any of the rich people that day.

If you remember anything from what we read in the gospel today, it is that it’s important we give our best gifts to God.

Let God guide you and give you strength like president Lincoln or the old widow.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, give us generous hearts.

Please help us to be careful with the gifts you have given us to use them wisely.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
