Hello everyone! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the Daily Gospels together.
Let’s get started! Today is Thursday, November 21st, and we’ll be reading Luke 19, 41-44.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 19, 41-44.
And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will cast up a bank about you, and surround you, and hem you on every side, and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you.
And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.
My mom helped me understand today’s reading a little bit better by reminding me of a story when I was about 6 years old.
I was over at my grandma’s house.
My grandma’s house had a swimming pool with a gate around it.
We knew that we weren’t allowed to go into the area unless we had an adult with us.
My second cousin was over for a holiday party, opened the gate, and told me to come in with him.
I said I’m not allowed to unless an adult was with us.
He kept nagging me to come in.
So, he grabbed me to go in there with him.
I yelled loud for my mom.
My grandma found us and made him get out of the gated area.
I went and got my mom to tell her he wanted me to go inside the gated area because I knew it was wrong and I didn’t want to get hurt or in trouble.
Then, my cousin was mad at me for the rest of the party.
My mom said that today’s story is a lot like that, kind of what happened with Jesus and Jerusalem.
Even though Jesus was sad, he still wanted to help the people in Jerusalem, and that’s what God wants to do for us, too.
It hurt my feelings when my second cousin didn’t talk to me anymore, even though I was trying to help him do the right thing.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, help us to find every day for prayer to ask you for peace and to be united to you because we are doing what’s right and good.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
