Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily gospels together.
Let’s get started.
Today is Tuesday, November 5th, and we’ll be reading Luke 14, 15 through 24.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 14, 15 through 24.
One of those who sat at table with him heard this.
He said to him, Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
But he said to him, A man once gave a great banquet and invited many.
And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, Come for all is now ready.
But they all like began to make excuses.
The first told him, I have brought a field and I must go out and see it.
Please have me excused.
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen and I go to examine them.
Please have me excused.
And another said, I have married a wife and therefore I cannot come.
So the servant came and reported this to his master.
Then the householder in anger said to his servants, Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city and bring in the poor, the maimed, the blind and the lame.
And the servant said, Sir, what you commanded has been done and still there is room.
And the master said to the servant, Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.
For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.
Think about a time you had a party, like a really awesome party.
You planned it for a few weeks.
You get all the decorations.
You make invitations for all your friends.
You pick out the perfect outfit and you can hardly wait for the special day.
But then no one shows up.
You put in all that time and effort for no one to show up.
How do you feel?
Well, that stinks.
Jesus told a story about a man who was having a great big party.
He had got everything ready.
It was the best party ever, but all the people thought they had better things to do.
Jesus was using this story about the best party ever that will happen in heaven.
Jesus says, we are all invited.
Will you be there?
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you that your party in heaven will be the best one ever.
I want to be there.
Help me to not be too busy or distracted.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
