Hello everyone, my name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

I’m so happy to be with you reading the daily gospels together.

Let’s get started! Today is Tuesday, October 29th and we will be reading Luke 13, 18-21.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 13, 18-21.

He said, therefore, what is the kingdom of God like, and what shall I compare it?

It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took out and sowed it in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.

And again he said, to what shall I compare the kingdom of God?

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

One of my favorite things my mom makes is homemade pizza.

I’m drooling thinking about it.

She makes the dough with flour and such, and of course, yeast.

It looks like normal dough, but then she puts in the window with sunshine for a while and comes back to it almost overflowing out of the bowl.

It’s quite amazing to see that little bit of flour dough transforms into a whole bowlful.

In today’s reading, Jesus compares God’s kingdom in two very tiny things.

Sometimes we imagine the kingdom of God as being a place for later in the future.

Jesus says God’s kingdom is here on earth right now.

Jesus encourages his friends then, and us now, to make sure that we are working to bring God’s kingdom present when we follow Jesus' teachings and live the way God wants us to live.

Good things will happen.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help me to be like a small amount of yeast that grows, and use my small acts of kindness to help grow your kingdom.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
