Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Wednesday, October 23rd, and we will be reading Luke 12, 39-48.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 12, 39-48.
But know this, that if the householder had known what hour the thief was coming, he would have been awake and would not have left his house to be broken into.
You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Peter said, Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?
And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household and give him their proportion of food at a proper time?
What is that servant whom the master, when he comes, and finds so doing?
Truly I tell you, he will set him over all his possessions.
But if the servant says to himself, My master is delayed in coming, and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of the servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him where the unfaithful.
And that servant who knew his master’s will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating.
But he who did not know and what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating.
Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required.
And of him to whom men commit much, they will demand the more.
One of my brother and my favorite cartoons that makes us for real laugh out loud is about a dog that’s going to rabbit hunt.
His master tells him he better get a good night’s sleep so that he’s ready to go early the next morning.
The rabbit overhears their conversation and works all night trying to keep the dog up, whatever it’s flashing the lights, creating the thunderstorm sounds, or setting off firecrackers.
So when the next morning comes, the dog is so tired that he can’t get out of bed to go rabbit hunting with his master.
He ends up going into the rabbit’s den and falling asleep with the prey he was supposed to catch, because they were both up all night watching each other.
I thought of this cartoon after today’s reading, because Jesus tells us to watch for Christ’s coming.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for being with us.
Help me to remember to be ready and watchful.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow.
Scattering more flowers.
See ya!
