Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Bricklin and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, October 21st and we will be reading Luke 12, 13-21.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 12, 13-21.
One of the multitudes said to him, Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me.
But he said to him, Man, who made me judge or divider over you?
And he said to them, Take heed and beware of covetousness, for a man’s life does not consist of the abundance of his possessions.
And he told them a parable, saying, The land of a rich man brought forth plentiful.
And he thought to himself, What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?
And he said, I will do this, and I will put down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grains and my goods.
And he will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years.
Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.
But God said to him, Fool, this night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, those will they be.
So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Do you get those wished list catalogs in the mail when Christmas is around the corner?
We have gotten three already, and it’s only October.
Phew! Sometimes, I get really frustrated looking through them.
There is so much stuff.
I like to be creative and think of what I need, not just look through a magazine and pick a bunch of stuff because it looks cool.
Things would pile up, and I wouldn’t have enough time to play with everything.
Today’s reading, a man thought he could be happy if he had a lot of things.
Jesus reminded him of what should be the most important.
Always put God first.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to be happy with the blessings you give us, and help us to be on guard against selfishness and greed.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
