Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Tuesday, October 15th, and we will be reading Luke 11, 37-41.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 11, 37-41.
While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him.
So he went in and sat at table.
The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner.
And the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisee cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness.
You fools, did he who did not make the outside make the inside also?
But give for alms those things which are within, and behold, everything is clean for you.
I’m going to read the scripture again, and to the word Pharisees I’m going to insert my own name instead of the word Pharisee.
You try it too! While he was speaking, Elise asked him to dine with him.
So he went in and sat at table.
Elise was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner.
And the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisee cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness.
You fools, did he who did not make the outside make the inside also?
But give for alms those things which are within, and behold, everything is clean for you.
How did it feel?
Luckily, Jesus just wants to help our hearts change and grow.
Try to pay attention to how much you spend on worrying about the way others see me.
God sees the heart and judges us on what we try to be and understands that much of the meaningless and sin has to do with the human weakness.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to remember that living for you is most important.
Help us to desire to be clean on the inside too, by going to confession and asking for forgiveness when we know we’ve sinned.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen! Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
