Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, October 13th, and we will be reading Luke 11, 29-32.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 11, 29-32.
When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, This generation is an evil generation.
It seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah.
So as Jonah became a sign to the men of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
The Queen of the South will arise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them.
For she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it.
For they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
One time my grandparents came to visit, and we decided we wanted to meet my dad at his work area in New York City for lunch.
So after breakfast, we needed to take the train into the city.
It made my grandpa and grandma really nervous because it’s not something they were used to doing.
When we were walking, we were explaining that one set of stairs went to the city, and the other set went the opposite way.
So pay attention.
Well, my grandpa started to go on the wrong stairs.
We said, read the signs, NYC this way.
He panicked and even took a picture of where he was standing to double check he was going in the right direction.
Such a funny memory.
Today’s reading reminds us of the importance of listening and following God’s signs and messages.
Jesus tells us that the only sign we need is the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah spent three days in the belly of the whale before being saved, Jesus spent three days in the tomb before rising again.
This is a sign of God’s love for us.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to die for our sins and having Him rise again.
Help me to follow your signs you give.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
