140. Thursday, October 10, 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Thursday, October 10th and we will be reading Luke 11, 5-13.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 11, 5-13.

And he said to them, Which of you who has a friend will go to them at midnight and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey and I have nothing to set before him, and he will answer from within, Do not bother me, the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed.

I cannot get up and give you everything, I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs, and I tell you, ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks, receives, and he who seeks, finds, and him who knocks, it will be opened.

What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of fish give him a serpent?

Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

If you then, who are evil, now, how to give good gifts to your children?

How much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?

Ooh, I really like this story in the Bible.

My mom has told it to me a couple of times.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night.

I’m a person that thinks a lot in the night, so it can keep me up sometimes or make me wake up in the middle of the night.

So my mom has shared this story with me.

Let me tell you what she taught me about it.

When it comes to waking up your neighbor for loaves of bread, in the parable this man represents us.

The neighbor represents God.

The parable of the friend at midnight shows us that we can come and talk to God at any time.

It doesn’t matter if it’s early in the morning or in the middle of the night.

We should pray to him with confidence that he will hear us.

When we pray to God, he will listen.

He wants to show us his perfect love.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for being with us and always knowing what we need, even before we ask.

Thank you for answering all our prayers the way you know is best.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
