Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Tuesday, October 8th, and we will be reading Luke 10, 38-42.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one! Now, let’s read Luke 10, 38-42.
One of my mom’s favorite hobbies is cooking.
She loves to cook and make things for other people to enjoy.
She is always trying new recipes and getting fresh ingredients to cook with.
However, we have a nice house and a nice kitchen with things my mom likes to use.
Did you know that back in Jesus' time, kitchens were outside in a courtyard?
They didn’t have any fancy appliances like stoves, ovens, or refrigerators.
They had to grind the flour by hand, bake fresh bread, and eat their vegetables picked fresh from a garden and keep a close eye on things they had set in the fire to cook or bake.
It is easy to see how Martha must have gotten caught up in the preparations, but then she began to get mad that all the work she was doing preparing the food was not a bad thing to do.
Jesus does not tell her that she should have been with Mary listening to him.
Mary had probably been helping in the preparations at some point, but she made a choice to come and listen to Jesus speak.
Choosing to listen to Jesus is always a good choice.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, help us to remember that you are the most important thing in our lives.
Don’t let us get so busy with other things that we forget to spend time with you.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
