Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, October 7th, and we will be reading Luke 10, 25-37.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Luke 10, 25-37.
And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
He said to him, What is written in the law?
What do you read here?
And he answered, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
And he said to him, You have answered right, do this and you will live.
But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
Jesus replied, A man was going down to Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell amongst robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side.
But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine.
Then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
And the next day he took about two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, Take care of him, and whatever more you spend I will repay you when I come back.
Which of these three do you think provide a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?
He said, The one who showed mercy on him.
And Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise.
On my brother’s basketball team there are a couple boys who don’t pass the ball to other players and only between each other.
There is one little boy that they leave out completely.
After one game, my brother came home and said he felt really bad and was going to make sure to tell them to stop passing more to him.
My dad said, No, that’s the coach’s job.
So instead, my brother has made sure to be his friend instead.
He talks to him at each game.
My brother passes to him when he gets the chance.
And he makes sure to give him a high five and tell him goodbye each week.
Sometimes, just being nice to those who you notice aren’t being treated the same can make a big difference.
Just like the Samaritan helping the man on the side of the road.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help me let the light of Jesus shine, and help me to serve others.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
