125. Thursday, October 3, 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Thursday, October 3rd and we will be reading Luke 10, 1-12.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 10, 1-12.

After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them ahead of him, two by two, to every town and place where he himself was about to come.

And he said to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

Go your way, behold, I send you out as lambs in the mists of wolves.

Carry no purse to the bag, no sandals, and salute no one on the road.

Whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house, and if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him, but if not, it shall return to you.

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves its wages.

Do not go from house to house, whether you enter a town and they receive you.

Eat what is set before you, heal the sick in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near to you.

But whatever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you.

Nevertheless, know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.

I tell you, it shall be more tolerable than the day of Sodom for that town.

We have some family friends that are Christian missionaries over in Japan.

When they moved over to Japan from the States, they only each took one suitcase of necessities.

They both left a lot behind.

They said once they got to Japan, if they missed something or needed something, then they would replace it with something from their new country they were living in.

I thought for myself that would be really hard because I like a lot of the stuff I have.

But in today, the Bible is about Jesus sending people out to travel around and tell people about God.

Jesus told them not to take anything with them as they went from town to town.

They did not have any extra money to buy food or to buy something that they needed.

Jesus said that they should trust.

Their job was to stay focused on telling people about God and God’s love for everyone.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for being with us always.

We pray that you can tell other people about you, even if we feel that we don’t have everything we need.

You are all that we need and the world needs.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
