113. Tuesday, September 17, 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Tuesday, September 17th, and we will be reading Luke 7, 11-17.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 7, 11-17.

And she was a widow, and a large crowd from the city was with her.

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.

And he came and touched the beard, and the barrier stood still.

And he said, Young man, I say to you, arise.

And the dead man sat up and began to speak.

And he gave him to his mother.

Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited his people.

And this report concerning him spread through the whole of Judea and the surrounding country.

I know we’ve done this before, but it’s kind of fun, so I thought we would do it again.

Get a scrap piece of paper, and this time we’re going to make happy faces or sad faces.

After I say the phrase, draw a quick, happy, or sad doodle of what you would feel.

Ready?

Your birthday is tomorrow.

Your pet bird died.

Your friend is coming to lunch.

You cleaned up your room without being asked.

Your friend next door hit you.

You’re going to a park this afternoon.

You shared your toys with your brother or sister.

Your family is going on a trip.

K.

How many happy faces did you make?

How many sad faces?

I hope you have more happy faces.

It’s so much nicer to feel happy than sad.

Today we read about a time when Jesus spoke.

A young man that had died sat up and began talking.

Jesus gave him to his mother.

His mother stopped crying and started praising God.

I think if we see someone who is sick, or scared, or lonely, he wants us to say kind words and listen to them, to comfort them.

When we do, we are doing it for Jesus.

I think that Jesus loves it when we help sad people too.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for coming to help us when we are sad and help us to be there for others like you are, so we can show others who you are.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
