Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Elise Birkeland and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Monday, September 16th and we will be reading Luke 7, 1-10.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 7, 1-10.

After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.

Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death.

When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave.

And they came to Jesus and begged him earnestly, saying, He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation and built us our synagogue.

And Jesus went with them.

When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, therefore I did not presume to come to you, but say the word and let my servant be healed.

For I am a man set under authority with soldiers under me, and I say to one, Go! And he goes.

And to the other, Come! And he comes.

And to my slave, Do this! And he does it.

When Jesus heard this, he marveled at him and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.

And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.

When the Summer Olympics were on a couple months ago, my dad and brother, actually all of us, loved to watch the men’s basketball games.

Some of my dad’s and brother’s favorite players were fun to watch play together, because they were all some of the best players of the United States playing together, so we won most of the game.

My brother is also on a basketball team called the Warriors.

He has practice every week so the team is ready to play good together for their games on the weekend, but they have to practice to get better and learn how to work together and do certain plays from their coach.

They might know how to play, but their coach helps them get better players, kinda like the centurion asking Jesus for help.

The centurion is a pretty powerful guy and had money that could have gotten him the help he needed, but instead he asked Jesus for help.

We don’t need to impress God with who we are to get help from him.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help me not to feel like I need to impress you or to show off to receive love from you.

Thank you for helping me in all things.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
