Hello, everyone.
Welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Tuesday, September 10th, and we’ll be reading Luke 6, 12-19.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Luke 6, 12-19.
In these days he went out to the hills to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
And when it was day, he called his disciples and chose from the twelve, whom he named apostles, Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip and Bartholomew, and Matthew and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called Zelot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
And he came down with them and stood on a level place with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidion, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured, and all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all.
This past week my brother had basketball tryouts.
My dad practiced with him every night leading up to the tryouts, and my mom was nervous because she wanted him not to be disappointed.
He was excited until the day after when we had to wait to see which team he was put on.
Then he was a little bit anxious waiting to find out his team.
Spoiler alert, it all turned out well in the end.
Have you ever had to wait to be picked for a team?
Can you imagine being picked of the 12 disciples?
Oof, that could make you super nervous.
Luckily Jesus spent time with his father in prayer.
He wanted to do the father’s will.
He shows his power by using the average person, the weak, or the poor.
The 12 were a mix of different type of men.
God doesn’t need to use the powerful, the rich, and the smartest guys in the room.
They probably felt pretty cool to be picked for that team.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Dear God, thank you for loving us just the way we are, average and unique.
Help us to be a follower that works for the good for your team.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
