Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Monday, September 9th, and we will be reading Luke 6, 6-11.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one! Now let’s read Luke 6, 6-11.

On another Sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man was there whose right hand was withered, and the scribes and Pharisees watched him to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could make an accusation against him.

But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand, Come and stand here.

And he rose and stood there.

And Jesus said to them, I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do or to harm, to save a life or to destroy it?

And he looked around on them all, and said to him, Stretch out your hand.

And he did so.

And his hand was restored.

And they were filled with fury, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Remember last week when we read about new wineskins and talked about how we have to make sure we don’t get a stinky attitude that the way I do things is fine?

Today is still about this.

I think Jesus is trying to help the people see that there are too many rules and that they were making the Sabbath too difficult.

The reading today doesn’t specifically say the man came to get his withered hand healed, so maybe we can imagine that he just came to learn from Jesus.

Jesus chose to call him up on the Sabbath, which is why the Pharisees got mad at him for not following the rules.

Think about yourself now.

Why do you go to Mass?

Do you do it because you want to learn more about God, or do you do it because you have to?

It’s the rule.

If we go with the right heart, and I know Jesus will want to bless us, let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for Jesus who finds ways to bless us, to heal us, and to make us better people.

Help me to learn more about you from going to Mass, and listening to your word, and the homilies.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow.

Scattering more flowers.

See ya!
