Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Tuesday, September 3rd and we will be reading Luke 4, 31-37.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 4, 31-37.

And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and he was teaching them on the Sabbath.

And they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.

And in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon.

And he cried out with a loud voice, Ah, what have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?

Have you come to destroy us?

I know who you are, the Holy One of God.

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent and come out of him.

And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.

And they were all amazed and said to one another, What is this word?

For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.

And reports of him went out to every place in the surrounding region.

This reading made me think of Halloween.

Halloween is not my most favorite holiday.

Don’t get me wrong, I love October, because it’s me and my dad’s birthday month, and it’s when the cool weather starts to kick in.

But Halloween is only fun because you get candy.

Most years, my mom turns off our automatic porch light when it starts to get a little later, because that’s when the teenagers trick or treat, and I don’t like to see their costumes.

Sometimes they’re ugly and icky.

Today’s Gospel talked about how Jesus cast out an evil spirit from a man.

An evil spirit is a demon.

A demon is a bad spirit that works for the devil and tries to get people to do bad things.

It can’t even get inside of someone who doesn’t believe in God and take control of them.

An evil spirit can’t get inside of someone who believes in God, because if you believe in God, you have the Holy Spirit living inside of you, and the Holy Spirit protects you from the demons.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to take time to pray every day so that we can know you better.

We are thankful for everything you do.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.

See ya!
