Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Wednesday, August 28th and we will be reading Matthew 23, 27-32.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 23, 27-32.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly they appear beautiful, but within they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and abhor the monuments of the righteous, saying, If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.
Thus you witness against yourself that you are sons of those who murmured the prophets.
Fill up and measure of your fathers.
Do you like milkshakes?
Mmm, I do.
My favorite, I think, is cookies and cream, or maybe peanut butter, or chocolate.
No, I think cookies and cream.
Anyway, I would imagine if I were making a milkshake, would I put in spoiled milk, potting soil, sardines, or anything else that I think was disgusting.
It looks like a milkshake, but what’s inside was different, or when you open the lid you could definitely smell the difference.
Jesus would have appeared to be like the Pharisees.
The Pharisees talked about Elijah.
Jesus did too.
The Pharisees obeyed the law of Moses.
Jesus did too.
The Pharisees were teaching people.
Jesus was too.
On the outside, they could have easily appeared the same, and to many people they probably did appear the same.
We know they are not the same.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to believe in you and to confess our sins so we can live completely for you inside and out.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
