Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Friday, August 23rd, and we will be reading Matthew 22, 34-40.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one! Now let’s read Matthew 22, 34-40.

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together.

And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him, Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?

And he said to them, You shall love the Lord with all your heart and with your soul and with all your mind.

This is the great and the first commandment.

And the second is like this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.

Do me a favor before you listen today, grab a pencil and a scrap of piece of paper.

Jesus teaches us another very important lesson about love.

Now, every time you hear the word love, make a heart shape on your scrap paper.

Ready?

In today’s reading, Jesus teaches a super important lesson about love.

People were always amazed at the teachings of Jesus.

One day, a man who thought he was an expert in the law tried to trick Jesus with this question, Teacher, which is the greatest commandment?

Jesus answered, Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind.

This is the greatest commandment.

And the second is like this, love your neighbor as yourself.

In other words, Jesus is saying that if we love God and love others, we would not have any trouble keeping the other commandments.

Let’s ask God to help us love as we should in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dear God, help us to love you with all our heart and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

So how many hearts did you make?

I got nine.

That was fun.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.

See ya!
