Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Tuesday, August 20th and we will be reading Matthew 19, 23-30.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 19, 23-30.
And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, it will be heard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved?
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
Then Peter said in reply, Behold, we have left everything and followed you.
What then shall we have?
Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for my name’s sake will receive hundredfold.
I inherited eternal life, but many that are first will be last and the last first.
One time we went to a concert with my dad that didn’t allow backpacks.
We knew this because we checked before we went, so my mom just had a small fanny pack, but the person in front of us had a big old backpack with him.
The security guards at the front made him take his backpack all the way back to his car.
He wasn’t too happy about giving up his things.
Jesus says it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
You know how huge a camel is, right?
And how small the eye of a needle is.
It’s teeny weeny hole in the needle.
So it can’t be done.
It’s impossible.
You can’t fit a camel through the eye of a needle, but with God, all things are possible.
If we give up things we think we need to follow Jesus, then we will be rewarded.
We only have to remember to make God most important in our lives and to do whatever he tells us, and then he will reward us when Jesus comes back again.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, God, help us to keep you first in our lives.
Help us not to make money or things even more important than you, because you are the one who made us.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
