Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Friday, August 16th and we will be reading Matthew 19, 3-12.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 19, 3-12.
And the Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?
He answered, Have you not read that he who made them in the beginning made them male and female?
And said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one.
So they are no longer two but one.
What therefore God has joined together, let no man put under.
They said to him, Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to put her away?
He said to them, For your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives.
But from the beginning it was not so.
But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife accepts adultery, and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
The disciples said to him, It is such is the case of a man, but his wife is not accepted to marry.
But he said to them, Not all men can receive the prefect, but only those whom it is given.
For these are eunuchs who have been sowed from for birth, and these are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and these are eunuchs who have been made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.
He who is able to receive this, let him receive it.
My family and I were just talking about this subject the other day.
My brother was wondering about divorce because there are some people that live good but had gotten into a divorce, even though the Bible says it’s wrong.
My dad said something funny.
He said, Isn’t it funny how Jesus asked the Pharisees, Have you not read?
That all the Pharisees did.
They read schools and studied the law all the time.
He explained that God hates divorce, but because we are human and sinners, sometimes people make that choice.
But most important, God teaches about marriage and divorce in the Bible, Jesus' stories, to help us understand the closeness that God wants us to have with Him.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, we are so thankful for family.
Help our families to stay together the way you meant for it to be, and we pray for those who have been hurt from divorce.
Help us to all, married or not, to remember to strive to be close to you.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
