Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Wednesday, August 14th, and we will be reading Matthew 18, 15-20.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 18, 15-20.
If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.
If he listens to you, you have gained your brother, but if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, and every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church, and if he refuses to listen to even the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth shall be lost in heaven.
Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
For there are two, three are gathered in my name, but there I am in the midst of them.
It’s almost time to go back to school.
My brother and I just went school supply shopping last week.
We got binders and notebooks, pencils, glue, a new paint set for each of us, and a few other things.
I actually think it’s kind of fun to shop for new things for a new school year.
But let me tell you what I’m not looking forward to, tests.
Even though I don’t like them, I thought I would warm us all up with a pop quiz.
What is one plus one?
Easy, right?
Three.
I promise you it’s not a trick question.
Here it is.
According to the Bible, one plus one can equal three.
Jesus said, for where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.
So see, if two are gathered in Jesus’s name, Jesus is there with them.
So one plus one equals three.
Look around the room, whatever the number of people are with you, you can add one to it because Jesus is there too.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for being us wherever we are.
