Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Thursday, August 8th, and we will be reading Matthew 16, 13-23.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 16, 13-23.
Now when Jesus came to the district of Carsia Philippi, he said to his disciples, who do men say that the Son of Man is?
They said, some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
He said to them, but who do you say I am?
Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered him, Best are you Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you.
But my Father who is in heaven and I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it, and I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.
And whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth shall be lost in heaven.
And he strictly charged the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.
And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, God forbid, Lord, this shall never happen to you.
But he turned and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan, for you are a hindrance to me, and you are not in the sight of God, but of men.
As you know, my name is Elise, but my dad has a nickname for me, and even one for my brother.
It makes us feel special because we know it’s a name he says out of love.
I think nicknames can be really fun, especially if you like the meaning and the person who gave it to you.
What if Jesus gave you a nickname?
How cool would that be?
He gave one to Simon, he called him The Rock.
When Simon answered Jesus, of who he was, an answer filled with love, trust, and faith, that he was solid as a rock.
What do you think your nickname would be if Jesus gave you one?
Let’s pray.
Dear God, thank you for revealing yourself through Jesus.
Help us to remember that He is our Savior and Messiah.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
